-the quality of being kind and generous
-the quality or fact of being plentiful or large

God is a generous God. So if God lives within me, what should I be?

Yeah, here goes another Christian generosity speech.
But no really, I find myself writing about this today because for the past semester and more recently the past week I have been struggling with this. It has really been confusing me because I recently sponsored a child through Compassion (another post for another day but I'm so excited about that) with every intention to sponsor another/a lot more someday. How much more generous can I become right? Definitely wrong. My enthusiasm to sponsor through compassion is genuine, however, in other aspects of my life I have not been as genuine in my generosity. The ironic aspect of my generosity is that it's difficult for me to be generous with people that I know. I've also come to the realization that I find it easier to be generous with money than with an asset or tangible item that I own. I've been finding myself being stingy over little things like food. It's so silly.
The only explanation that I can think of for myself is my mind unconsciously went into "survivor" mode because of a great cut in hours at work that I had these pass couple of weeks. However, if that were true why am I being stingy with non-tangible items like my time, or my words. I've been being selective in minimal in my speech. Selective and minimal with taking out time for others (even when I have NOTHING BUT TIME). Even having the nerve to feel like some people or topics weren't worth the time or words. I allowed this to seep into my prayer life. When people would ask for prayers some became obligatory and like a chore.
That's where I'm going with this ----> Generosity is not & should not feel like a chore. Google's definition says it perfectly: The quality of being kind AND generous. It should reflect the quality of your heart. I do not believe we as people can truly be generous without doing it out of kindness rather than obligation. Synonyms's of kind according to Google definitions: character, nature, essence, disposition, & more. Kindness is a quality of love.

"Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."-1Cor 13:4-7

Google's definition of generous is:(of a person) showing a readiness to give more of something, as money or time, than is strictly necessary or expected. How can one have a genuine eagerness or readiness to give without love or kindness?

What God has been working on me with is that my circumstances are not who I am. Finanicial circumstances: I am blessed to be a blessing. I have all of my financial needs met and God allows me to be capable to live with some luxuries (I am NOWHERE near being a baller,.. Yet).  I have grown up with the concept that my money is not mine, that it is the Lord's. I completely agree and entrust my finances with God all of the time. The kicker for me is EVERYTHING of me and mine belongs to God. This is something I constantly have to be reminded of. Even when I pour out my heart to SEU Worship song "All that I have and all that I am, I lay it down at your feet"

A Call to Generous Giving:

"Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, what God in his kindness has done through the churches in Macedonia. They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity. For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will.  They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem. They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do."-2 Cor 8:1-5

Everything that I do I want it to reflect Christ. Christ was the most generous person the world has known. Miracles, teachings, healing, compassion, Salvation, and the Holy Spirit Christ was generous enough to give us through love and kindness.  Showing love through generosity allows us to show Christ's love to others.

"As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity to them and to all believers will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ." -2Cor 9:13

An act of generosity that someone did for me happened yesterday. This girl going to the gas station next to where I work saw me walking and gave me a ride. She did not know me. (she goes to the same school as I, and  we've seen each other around that's all). It wasn't raining nor do I have a horrible limp or anything for her to be giving me a sympathy ride. She did it out of kindness.
Take some time and "take inventory of our heart" if God isn't prompting you to pick up strangers, Don't do it! He may be prompting you to be more intentional with your time for people. Being generous within your own heart in your actions towards others. God may be prompting you to be generous financially.

****Comment below if you feel prompted to be more generous in some aspect of your life****
(thanks for reading this entire thing)

"And I am praying that you will put into action the generosity that comes from your faith as you understand and experience all the good things we have in Christ." -Phi 1:6

-Love you guys <3
